The Central Bank of Egypt was established by a republican decree in 1961 as an independent entity and represents the official bank of the Egyptian government. It is the responsibility of the Central Bank to:

     Issuing the local currency, the Egyptian pound in all its categories.
     Formulation of monetary policy, identification of tools that can be used and procedures for their implementation.
     Maintain the stability of the Egyptian pound.
     Management of the State Reserve of Gold and Free Currencies.
     Control of banks.
     Government Debt Management.
