The Crane birds are always seen in flocks driven by shepherds holding long sticks to touch their legs with and looking after them, It is surprising that the artist painted the birds with in such realistic details, however the number of legs do not match the number of birds in the picture. These birds were shown in pictures and carvings on tombs in cages being fed with grains and fattened up as it was believed the their meat is not tasty for human consumption except if they are grain fed. The picture shown on this commemorative coin is from the Mastaba tomb of Nefer at Saqqara dating back to the fifth dynasty and is now displayed at the Berlin Museum, Germany.
