Ashrafi is a name given to the Egyptian dinar during the Burji Memluk era after Sultan Al-Ashraf Barsbay's name who carried out monetary reform in 829 AD where he adjusted the gold coins weight and fineness therefore he minted dinars in the same weight as the Venetians ducat at 3.45 grams of pure gold .
