Usually a large thread containing letters or words that is added to the paper during the the drying phase of its fabrication . After applying the thread a special machine scratches the thin layer of paper covering it on the places containing the letters words or drawings . This way whatever inscribed on the thread appears while the rest remains buried in the paper
